Summer Time Eye-Care Tips

July 16, 2012

Summer is officially here and the need to take care of your eyes is supremely important. From wearing sunglasses to protect against the sun’s rays to watching sand in your eyes at the beach, summer can be one of the worst seasons for keeping your eyes healthy and well-maintained. The offices of Dr. Sayed Jovkar would like to provide you with some tips on how best to care for your contact lenses while traveling.

Tip One - Easy to use contacts are the best option. Daily disposables offer the least amount of effort and require the least amount of upkeep. Should you get something in your eye or damage them somehow, you’ll have many more pairs to replace them. You won’t need to worry about carrying around a large container of solution either, possibly just a small bottle in case your eyes dry out. Numerous companies make daily disposable contact lenses. Over three-quarters of contact lens users can find daily disposables with their prescriptions, making travel far easier than ever before.

Tip Two - Be aware of the TSA. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) guard the airports with scanners, bomb detecting implements and more. There are severe restrictions on the amount of liquid one can take onto an air plane, and many people have had to throw away their contact lens solution and been forced to buy more at insane prices on the other side of the metal detectors. Firstly, if you only have carry-on items, be sure you are only carrying smaller amounts of contact lens solution. This means anything over 3.4 oz  (or 100 ml) is out. If you have luggage, put the larger bottles in your suitcase as they will be waiting for you when you get off the plane.
