The traditional intraocular lens replaces the cloudy cataract lens but it does not correct pre-existing astigmatism.
Now, an advanced new technology makes it possible for Dr. Jovkar to perform a single procedure in which the cloudy cataract lens is replaced by an intraocular lens that is designed to correct astigmatism as well.
The Acrysof Toric Lens is designed to reduce or eliminate astigmatism. The result is typically improved vision distance vision, and less dependence on eyeglasses or contacts for distance vision. The Acrysof Toric Lens also filters out harmful ultraviolet and blue light.
The Acrysof Toric Lens is a foldable, single piece lens that is implanted in the capsular bag where after the cataract is removed. The lens acrylic material is highly biocompatible. The Acrysof Toric Lens is made of the same biocompatible lens material that has been used to replace millions of cloudy cataracts.
In a clinical trial, a great majority of the patients implanted with the AcrySof Toric IOL had significant freedom from glasses for distance vision. Dr. Jovkar will discuss with you whether you are a candidate for this new technology lens.
